Autumn meeting and management committee

The Autumn 2011 Meeting and AGM of the Management Committee is to be held on 28th and 29th September, starting at Forest Research's Northern Research Station at Roslin, near Edinburgh. Visits will be made to Forest Research's clonal archive and Buccleuch Estates (Alba Trees, oak Breeding Seedling Orchard and tour of the Country Park).

All are welcome, please contact Jo Clark if you want to attend.

Improved trees available soon

Alba Trees received recently a delivery of improved ash, birch and cherry seed from Forestart and will soon be growing improved trees from it.  Improved birch and cherry trees will be available in Spring 2012, with improved ash available in September 2012. Hardwoods scheme a 'plus' to industry

The Irish Independent's farming correspondent Joe Barry was hugely impressed by BIHT's work on a recent visit to the Forestry and Bio Energy Show at Birr Castle Estate.

He visited our stand where Michael Carey and John Fennessy explained about our work. He left mightily impressed but saddened that our work hadn't started 20 or 30 years earlier, when he was planting broadleaves and would have loved to have had access to improved trees.
